A small aircraft has crashed while landing at a regional airport in North Carolina, officials say.
Multiple people died in the crash, a local sheriff told CBS, the BBC's US partner. It is unclear how many people were on the plane.
The plane crashed while landing at Statesville Regional Airport around 10:15 local time (15:15GMT) on Thursday and the Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident, Statesville Airport said on social media.
Registration information for the plane - a Cessna C550 - tie it to Nascar driver Greg Biffle but it is unclear whether he was aboard the aircraft when it crashed.
According to a CBS affiliate in the area, the business jet took off around 10:06am and was in the air briefly before the crash. It is unclear how many people were on it.
