John Lewis pays first staff bonus since 2022

John Lewis will award its staff an extra week's pay after it restored its bonus for the first time since 2022.

The partnership, which operates the eponymous department store chain and Waitrose supermarkets, said that underlying profits had grown during its last financial year.

The 2% bonus will be the first its "partners" have received in four years after it was scrapped during the Covid pandemic when it underwent a major turnaround which included shutting shops and cutting jobs.

Looking ahead, John Lewis that it remains "cautious" for the current year but was in a stronger position financially "to navigate the challenging macroeconomic environment".
