Two immigration agents may have made "untruthful statements" under sworn testimony about the shooting of a migrant in Minneapolis last month, says Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

ICE acting director Todd Lyons said the two officers, who have not been named, were immediately placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation.

"Lying under oath is a serious federal offense," Lyons said. It comes a day after federal prosecutors moved to drop felony charges against two Venezuelan men in the case.

The Department of Homeland Security initially said a federal officer shot a man in the leg after being attacked with a shovel and broom handle by three migrants on 14 January.
