Hull Kingston Rovers forward Rhyse Martin is to retire after this autumn's World Cup in Australia.

The 33-year-old, who kicked three goals as the Robins defeated Wigan to win their first Super League trophy in last October's Grand Final at Old Trafford, says he wants more silverware with the club before he finishes.

But the Papua New Guinea captain sees a third World Cup appearance as the natural end point to his career.

"I look forward to finishing the year strong for Hull KR and giving everything to the team," Martin told the club website., external

"With it being a World Cup in 2026, it feels like the right time to hang up my boots representing my country at the end of the year."

Queensland-born Martin, who has won 21 caps for Papua New Guinea, made his debut for Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs in 2018 and went on to make a further 24 National Rugby League (NRL) appearances before moving to England with Leeds Rhinos.

A Challenge Cup winner with the Rhinos, Martin spent five seasons at Headingley before making the switch to Rovers where he helped the club to the treble last season, passing 1,000 Super League points on the way.

He also kicked three goals in the side's World Club Challenge victory over Brisbane Broncos in February and broke the club record for goals in a match with 16 against Lock Lane in a 104-0 Challenge Cup third-round win en route to this Saturday's final against Wigan.

"Ever since I was a kid, I dreamed of playing professional rugby league and for it to be my life - I am so lucky and grateful I have been able to have the career I've had," added Martin.

"I walk away at the end of the season knowing I have given everything for each club I've had the honour of representing and hope I have left the jersey in a better place."
