Scotland to face Sweden in World Curling play-offs

Scotland will face defending champions Sweden for a place in the World Men's Curling Championship semi-finals against hosts Canada after Bruce Mouat's rink lost their final round-robin match.

China prevailed 9-2 to seal third place in the standings and set up a qualification match with Norway. Switzerland await the winner in the semi-finals.

Earlier, the Scots made sure of progress to the play-offs with an emphatic 6-1 victory over Germany.

Germany, led by Marc Muskatewitz, had surprised the Scots in this season's European Championship final but found themselves trailing by three after the first end.

Mouat, seeking a fourth medal at world level, was always in control and the Germans conceded after losing two more in the seventh end.

"It's always nice to get the Q before the end of the round-robin," said Mouat.

"We're feeling like we're starting to step up and play a bit better, raising our game a bit, so we feel like we're in a good spot."

Olympic qualifying points gained from last year's championships will be added to this year's final total, with the top seven sides gaining qualification for Milan-Cortina in 2026, along with hosts Italy.

Those who fail to secure their place will have another chance to do so via a qualifying tournament at the end of the year.
