Wales captain Dewi Lake is a major Ospreys injury doubt for Saturday's United Rugby Championship derby against Scarlets in Swansea.
The hooker, 25, suffered a bicep injury in training and Ospreys are waiting on the results of scans.
Wales will also be nervous about the outcome, with their Six Nations opener against France in Paris on 31 January.
"We are just checking on Dewi," said Ospreys head coach Mark Jones.
"He took an accidental bump in training to his bicep.
"We're just assessing what that looks like at the moment, in terms of what part of the bicep and what needs to be done, if anything, to get him in a position to play.
"We're going to leave that one as long as we can because he's an important player and we'd love to have him around. I'm waiting to hear back myself on some clarity."
Lake's absence this weekend would complete a testing week for Ospreys.
After a record European defeat - a 59-15 Challenge Cup hammering at Montpellier on Saturday - Ospreys announced three days later that head coach Toby Booth had left the region, with Jones promoted to the top job.
Ospreys captain Jac Morgan and Wales prop Gareth Thomas are in contention this weekend for the match against Scarlets after being forced off against Montpellier.
Lake has missed the last two Six Nations tournaments because of injury.
He has been one of Wales' few positives over the past six months, which has seen Warren Gatland's side lose a record 12 consecutive internationals.
Lake was given the captaincy for the summer tour of Australia and kept the role for the autumn internationals as Wales lost against Fiji, Wallabies and South Africa.
Wales' other captaincy options include flanker Morgan and Exeter lock Dafydd Jenkins, who has just returned from injury.
Scarlets hooker Ryan Elias was Lake's deputy during the autumn internationals, while Elliot Dee is yet to play for the Dragons this season because of an ankle injury.
